I want to start out this post by saying…I never thought I would try the Whole30. It might be my love for fried chicken (thanks, mom), my obsession with something chocolatey after dinner (again, mom) or my NYC lifestyle that makes me seem unfit for the task.
I’ve recently seen so many people trying this plan (I refuse to call it a diet) and raving about the way it made them feel. After seeing this happen time and time again, I decided to also get on the no-sugar, no alcohol, lots of veggies, full fat, limited fruit train called the Whole30. Here are some reasons why I’m getting on board.
Clearer Skin // My skin definitely has good days and it has bad days. I notice a huge difference when I’ve been eating well and not drinking alcohol because my skin will be a lot smoother and have fewer blemishes. I want to get back to that.
Finding Foods Purpose // When we’re eating that $1 slice of pizza that tastes like cardboard at 2am on the streets of New York…we seem to forget the true purpose of food. Not saying this is something I’ll never do again (I swear it’s a part of the culture here) but I will translate this meaning to other parts of my life. This means I will eat for nourishment. Not eating something because it’s available but something I need to supply myself with energy.
Cut The Crap // When those weekly bagels turn into bi-weekly bagels and the Happy Hours become a little too frequent, we can really lose control of what we’re putting in our bodies. Being completely restricted on the “bad” things makes us more aware of how often we’re actually consuming them.
Even though it’s supposed to be 30 strict days, it’s difficult to find an entire month with no holidays or celebrations so I’m giving myself 3 cheat meals during the month. This means I won’t binge and make up for everything I’ve missed but instead I’ll allow myself to indulge but still be conscious of what I’m putting in my body. These days are Passover night, the night I’m celebrating my birthday and my actual birthday.
If you want to join in on this next month, email me here and say “I’m in!” or comment on my Instagram picture here. The Whole30 is so much easier to do together so join me!
