Let me start out by saying when I took these pictures, I was FREEZING. C’mon Spring, get here already! It actually is supposed to get up to 70 degrees this weekend which is I guess pretty warm compared to how it has been but it’s also the middle of April. I digress…
If you’ve been following the blog for a while now, then you know that I love changing up my accessories to give my outfits a fresh new look. I feel like fashion isn’t as much of the pieces we chose to wear but how we style it. This means taking a piece of clothing and adding accessories to it to make it look entirely different than how someone else has styled it. There is definitely no right way to do this but going in a direction that’s unique to you.
Here is how I would chose to style this basic black dress.
Belt It // Adding a belt can completely change the look of an outfit. Belt it over your coat, belt it under your coat, up to you! Thicker belts are in style more than ever right now and I’m loving this Stretch Belt and this Leather Belt.
Over Accessorize // I stopped in at the BaubleBar sample sale last week and bought a few big pairs of earrings. I don’t usually buy standout earrings like these because I’m worried about spending money on them and not finding enough occasions to wear them. I. Was. Wrong. I’ve had so much fun finding different outfits to wear with these gems and I’ve also discovered these will even make my simplest black dress look totally new.
It’s In The Bag // I have a bag obsession and I’m also a full believer that your handbag can be the star of the show! Tiny crossbodies and clutches are on everyones minds these days. I think that this orange mini purse is adorable and this blue top handle bag is the perfect color for spring. Both of these options are stand out colors to take your simple look to the next level.
Start Simple // I started with this jersey black dress which made accessorizing more fun than starting with a bolder print. It’s one of those basic pieces that you can take accessory risks with and rarely go wrong. My fave! If you’re looking to go with jeans instead, try a dark wash pair of denim and pair it with a basic white button down. Try this Vince Slim Silk Blouse or this Classic-Fit Oxford Pocket Shirt for something more budget friendly.
