We seem to be in the time of doing it all. We feel obligated to never say no to extra projects at work, take every side job thrown our way, and involve ourselves in so many activities that we are running around from Sunday to Saturday. I think part of this could be the age of technology and constantly being in front of new opportunities and part from our upbringing and how building up our resumes with an extensive list of extracurricular activities was considered the norm.
With juggling my full-time job, blogging and being involved in a few other groups in NYC, I feel like sometimes I’m spreading myself a little thin. Once I start doing one task, my mind immediately darts to another subject and I have to redirect it back to what I sat down to accomplish. I’ve learned to practice “working smart” and to not let outside distractions get the best of me when I’m on a mission. If you’ve been nodding you head yes to everything I’m talking about, try these tricks.
Set a time // Out attention span is not that long and we know it. Instead of forcing ourselves to work endless hours to finish a task, break it up. Set a timer for 30 minutes to focus on nothing BUT the task you’ve put in front of yourself. Once that timer is up, jump on social media, answer emails, or make yourself a snack for 10 minutes before setting that timer up again.
De-clutter // “A clean desk is a clean mind”. Not having papers that need to be addressed or scratch notes of endless to-do lists in front of your will also help you focus on what you need to accomplish. I make it part of my morning routine to clean my desk of unnecessary clutter so make room for what is important that day.
Tackle the most important first // There is always that one task on your to-do list that is the most daunting and hardest to accomplish. It might entail you having to call someone you don’t want to call or rummage through the most papers but it’s not leaving the list until you get it done. So do it first! I always have the most motivation and am the most awake in the morning (#MorningPeopleProblems) which means I am more likely to finish it first thing.
If you’re constantly running around from thing to thing and trying to do it all, try these tactics out! As for what I’m wearing, this dress was a straight up steal from H&M last month so it’s not online anymore but I did find something similar here & here. I paired it with these over-the-knee boots from Target. I initially wore this dress to a Legally Blonde Themed Brunch I had a few weeks ago but HAD to stop at Cha Cha Matcha for a pic because someone pointed out I matched the interior perfectly!
