I’m definitely not the first to say that this year was unlike anything we’ve experienced in our lifetimes and not the last to say I’m more than happy to welcome 2021. I still can’t believe how fast this year has gone, given the amount of times it felt like we were getting nowhere.
This was one of those years that has flown by yet looking back, you can’t believe how much has changed. I was let go from a job (pre-covid), got a new job (beginning of covid), changed relationship statuses, navigated the NYC dating world for the first time, nurtured close friend relationships, spent more time with my parents than in the past 10 years, paid off my student loans ($50k!), and started a business. While I’m so proud of myself for accomplishing what I did, this is not how I thought this year would go.
There were some dark times. Watching the news alone in my apartment and not knowing what the future would look like. It’s difficult to look back on this year and acknowledge the good. We sat down at the beginning of 2020 and made a list of where we wanted to travel, lofty goals we wanted to accomplish, family members we wanted to see…and then March hit and we had no idea what was coming at us for the rest of the year.
This year has made me realize that s lo w i n g d o w n was here to show me what I have, not what I want or thought I needed. Sure, we always want to be looking towards that next adventure and what else we could be doing but this year gave us the chance to just hit pause. There’s a quote that’s been circulating around social media that I think sums up this year perfectly,
“I thought 2020 would be the year I got everything I wanted. Now I know 2020 is the year I appreciate everything I have.“
I’m so thankful for my health, family, technology, outdoor dining (😉) those times we were able to spend with friends and cherishing every moment more than ever before. While this year didn’t bring what I put on my vision board, it brought me SO much more. And I hope you can see the good in 2020 too.
Cheers to a fulfilling & fruitful 2021 🥂
